I love the bombcast but I'm always looking for new recommendations. Personally, I also enjoy Radiolab, Planet Money, and the Bugle.
What podcasts do you listen to?
Earwolf has some good ones. Who Charted and CBB are the only ones that come out weekly and are awesome though. "You Talkin' U2 To Me" is AMAZING.
There's also Rich Gallup's Dad Strength featuring his patented brevity.
- Bombcast, of course
- Quarter to Three Movie Podcast
- Idle Thumbs - check out their YT channel where you can jump between different timestamps. Tone Control is another good show (Steve Gaynor interviewing developers).
The Laser Time network of podcasts are all absolutely great. I have listened to a ton of podcasts over the years and nothing comes close to touching these in terms of quality. They have podcasts that cover comic books, video games, wrestling, video game music, and general pop culture. It is mostly made up of the original Games Radar guys that have long since left but it has other peeps as well.
If you have never heard an episode I recommend you listen to this crime episode that gives a pretty good feel for their personalities. If you don't enjoy it then I can safely say these podcasts are not for you (and you probably have no soul).
Just the Bombcast and the Super Best Friendcast
Whatever's on this site, EpicBattleCry, and Podcast Beyond.
I recently listed to Vic's Basement where Victor Lucas and Tommy Tallarico reunited (you know, Electric Playground), so I may give that a shot more often.
Game Informer Show is also worth listening to if you're familiar with their crew. Besties is only up once a month, so I tend to get that.
I commute a total of 3 hours a day. Podcasts help.
I've been cutting and adding podcasts to my list for years and years to suit my schedule and interests. Right this second, I'm subscribed to:
- Boars, Gore, and Swords. Game of Thrones discussion podcast hosted by very funny SF comedians, and they do book club during the off-season.
- Bombin' the A.M. Fun times, good guests, gotta love it.
- Double Fine Action Cast. Hasn't updated for almost a year, but when they do update, it's quality.
- Film Sack. Always been a big fan of Scott Johnson's work, and Film Sack was one of the first shows I subscribed to when it started. Weird/interesting movie discussion.
- Idle Book Club. The Idle Thumbs guys do a book club show! It's been on hiatus, but they're coming back soon. Very smart discussion.
- My Brother, My Brother, And Me. If you liked the McElroys on the E3 Bombcasts, imagine them just joking about Yahoo! Answers and shit with their third bro. Hilarious!
- This American Life. Short stories. Well-produced, thought-provoking stuff.
- Tone Control. Steve Gaynor, formerly from Idle Thumbs, hosted game dev interviews on this feed. It ended it's first "season" I guess, so who knows when it'll be back.
- The Comedy Button. Essentially a resurrected Gamespy Debriefings show, but no longer about video games. Just very funny, smart guys chatting.
- Idle Thumbs. Brilliant. Like a thinking man's Bombcast.
- Rebel FM. Guys from all over the industry discuss games weekly. Good music breaks, and the hosts have good chemistry.
And obviously the Bombcast and Radiolab.
The Retsucast
The Something Awful Dungeons and Dragons podcast which is now a 13th Age podcast.
Sceptics guide to the univers: great science/scepticism podcast. Great panel but the host really makes the show.
Idle thumbs: often great intelligent talk about video games, often great dumb segments about random dreams or the enivitable robot takeover. Sometimes the imbodiment of everything that irritates me about video game critics and analysis. Nothing's perfect I guess... Except the bombcast of course.
Hardcore history: incredibly well thought out history podcast on specific time periods or historical events produced by one smart dude. It goes super long and super deep but it's soooo good. Also features the Brad Shoemaker's seal of approval.
Common sense: political podcast from the same dude centered on US politics and 21th century problems. Also super intelligent and well articulated.
This is only a test: cool tech podcast produced by will and norm who use to work with the giant bomb guys over a tested. Now they run a site about making things, tech and cool things for the mythbusters.
All GB podcasts: they're all pretty great
Bombcast
Wrestling Observer Radio - I basically just keep up via this. I don't even watch the shows anymore.
Tranquil Tirades - Comedy/review show where two guys commit to watching the worst movies ever made. One of the hosts is clearly a fan of GB because he references Jeff and Ryan constantly.
Bombcast
The Joe Rogan Experience
WTF
The Church of Whats Happening Now
Hardcore History
Also, I used to listen to the one Brian Posehn does where him and his friends play D&D but it's been a while.
For video games: Bombcast, CAGcast, Orange Lounge Radio, John and Garnett First for Gamers (John Davison and Garnett Lee's podcast), DLC (Jeff Cannata and Christin Spicer's podcast), The Final Score, Gamers with Jobs, GT Time, Super Joystiq Podcast
For movies: Movie Date, Far Far Away (Star Wars news...so much fan-wank, lots of fun), Mad About Movies, Nerd Tears
General news, sports and entertainment: The Tony Kornheiser Show (will be on hiatus through mid July-Sept 2nd), Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, The Bugle (currently on hiatus for the summer), The Geekbox, Tech News Today, This Week in Tech, Laser Time
Current Favorite Podcast: Good Job, Brain (a trivia podcast...so informative and so charming)
I don't spend 6 hours a day at a job where I can wear headphones the entire time so I don't listen to nearly as many as I used to, but I'll put a * next to the ones I've tried to keep in rotation:
Tony Kornheiser Show*
Around the Horn
Pardon the Interruption*
Mohr Stories*
WTF With Marc Maron*
Giant Bombcast*
Adam Carolla Podcast
Hollywood Prospectus*
The B.S. Report*
Jalen Rose Report* (though I tend to watch the Youtube version, because, well, Jalen Rose is awesome and Jacoby is great too)
The Right Reasons
Girls in Hoodies
Bombin' in the A.M. (Youtube version)*
Power Bombcast*
Alt-F1
@ez123: Are you poppin' my stones?
The Bombcast less frequently than in the past, but I still try to keep up. The Super Best Friendcast which has probably become my favorite podcast of what I currently listen to. Drunken Peasants has also been entertaining.
Used to listen to the CAGcast, but it quickly became unbearable. Also used to listen to the Destructoid podcast when Jim Sterling was around to host it, but I never found his new gig as entertaining.
@thebluthcompany: Just blue turtlein'.
@ez123: Let's be Frank here.
TWiT : I used to watch Tech Tv all the time when it was on so when Leo started his on network I started listening to it each week.
Mysterious Universe : A great paranormal podcast that mixes in a good dose of humor for some of the more obvious made up stories.
Now Playing : Detailed reviews of a assortment of different movies.
Rebel Force Radio :All around good podcast about Star Wars related news.
8-4 Play :It's a podcast about Japanese video games... most of the time.
I listen to a lot of comedy podcasts.
- Desus VS Mero
- Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast
- The Opie and Anthony Show Podcast
- The Artie Lange Show
Too many. I have a daily commute and a solo office job so it fills the time nicely.
- The Flop House
- James Bonding
- Star Wars Minute
- We Hate Movies
- How Did This Get Made?
- Doug Loves Movies
- Edumucation
- Hollywood Babble-On
- Smodcast
- The Dead Authors Podcast
- Still Untitled: The Adam Savage Project
- Nerd Poker
- The Indoor Kids
- Nerdist
- Aw Yeah Podcast
- Doug Loves Movies
- Fat Man on Batman
- Comedy Bang Bang
- Ken P.D. Snydecast
Well then, there are a lot of podcasts in this thread.
Here are some more (aside from the Bombcast)
- Insert Credit (for games - fun, interesting stuff about game design/culture)
- Sup Holmes? (for more games - real talk with devs and cool people)
- Hamish & Andy (for laughs and Australians)
- Podcast on Fire (Hong Kong film podcast)
- Naked Cantonese (Cantonese learning podcast that probably doesn't apply to that many people here!)
Was a big fan of Podtoid in the Holmes/Sterling/Zimmerman days and the Dismal Jesters until it's recent cancellation - just for when I wanted to feel like the worst kind of person.
@pyrodactyl: @noitwont: Came here to recommend Hardcore History... glad to see I am not alone.
Pity that he doesn't update more often, though...
I used to listen to the Rooster Teeth Podcast and Major Nelson Radio along with the Bombcast, but I lost interest in Rooster Teeth a couple years ago and put down MNR during the whole PR "war" between Microsoft and Sony at the beginning of this new console generation and didn't end up getting back into it.
Just the Bombcast now, I guess.
8-4 Play - For some Japanese centric gaming info.
The Bombcast - Obviously
Bombin in the AM - Really fun podcast with cool hosts
John + Garnett First for Gamers - Love hearing John Davison and Garnett Lee together again
Tested: This is Only a Test - Great podcast for tech news.
Video Game News Radio - a few guys from Cleveland that don't know too much about gaming but the Host Kevin is an older hardcore guy.
The Zenployee - Interesting for work place zen.
Other than giantbomb, Classic Loveline with Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew. Also, Adam Carolla's current podcast Mon-Fri. If you're a fan of either of them you should at least check out some of the classic loveline episodes. There are a lot of old bands and music, it can be very nostalgic for some as most were recorded in '96. Recently they just put up an episode where Ice-T was a guest on the show. Dr. Drew provides a lot of information while Adam makes it hilarious, if you're into him.
I actually run a podcast called Three Nerds in a Basement so I love checking out other podcasts to see how they differ. Other than that Giant Bombcast and Interview Dumptruck I listen to:
Gaming
- John and Garnett: First for Gamers
- Retronauts
- 8-4 Play
Non-Gaming
- The Comedy Button
- Good Job, Brain!
- Stuff You Should Know
Good Job, Brain! and Stuff You Should Know are probably my favourites. They go into such weird topics and Stuff You Should Know goes very in depth on one topic while Good Job, Brain! is more themed trivia and tells you general information about said topic.
Besides the Bombcast, I regularly listen to WTF and Nerdist, but that's about it. Though since my job allows me to listen to music/podcasts all day, I've been trying to get into some more. Sklarsbro Country and Talk is Jericho (Christ Jericho's new-ish podcast) are pretty good.
- Bombcast
- Steve Austin Show
- Ricky Gervais Show
- LOST Rewatch
- Breaking Bad Podcast (Will go back when I rewatch it again)
Swig of beer for the working man.
I work at home as a freelance artist so I have A LOT of time to listen to podcasts, helps keep me entertained while working. Also, I listen to quite a few IGN hosted podcasts despite literally never going to the site, I just like the casts for the most part.
- The Giant Bombcast (...and pretty much every other GB Premium)
- My Brother, My Brother and Me
- The Comedy Button (Listened to the Gamespy Debriefings before that.)
- RebelFM
- Podcast Beyond
- The GameOverGreggy Show
- Podcast Unlocked
- Super Knockin' Boots (Don't really need the relationship advice, but it's often times hilarious.)
- Game Scoop!
- Nintendo Voice Chat
- 8-4 Play
- ESPN: Fantasy Underground (Yes, I'm a huge football nerd.)
- ESPN: Fantasy Focus Football
I have a boring job so i listen to a ton of podcast, also if i only had to pick 3 to recommend it would be The Flophouse, We Hate Movies, and Uhh Yeah Dude. They are about the best podcast out there.
Video Games
- Giant Bombcast: You might of heard of it before, its about video games sometimes.
- 4 Player Podcast: Its kind of a Giant Bomb lite
- Not much else to add, everyone already pointed out the good ones
Movies / Television
- The Flophouse: A podcast about bad movies, starring 2 writers for the Daily Show, the Scorpian rangler for the Dailyshow and the Flophouse Housecat.....Rarrrrr Rarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cant recommend this enough. Wait...What, Cmon.
- We Hate Moves: A podcast about bad movies, part deux. Almost on par with the Flophouse but it doesn't have the Flophouse Housecat.......Rarrrrr Rarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Filmsack: You guys wont believe this, its a podcast about bad movies. The weakest of the 3 i recommend but its still great
Comedy-ish
- The Comedy Button: Its the comedy button, i have no idea what else to say about it. Great movie commentaries
- Uhh Yeah Dude: America through the eyes of two American Americans. Just some of the realest dudes talking about whats going on in the world this week. Solid recommendation
- The Bugle: John Oliver and Andy Zoltzmann bring the newspaper to your ears, including but not limited to giant penises on roofs and the lastest news on what shenanigans Silvio Berlusconi is up to.
- My Brother, My Brother, and Me: I remember first listening to it and expecting actual advice with a hint of jokes but the first thing i hear is the McElroy Brothers exposing the illegal use of Bull Semen injections by comedians.
- Mike and Tom Eat Snacks: Oh man not until this moment did i find out that this show is dead and has been for years, this is my Six Sense. The show is still good and the best place to get snack reviews by Michael Ian Black and his friend. Super bummed that it hasent updated in ages
Other
- Mysterious Universe: Great podcast about the paranormal with some really great stories. The only podcast where i paid $100 bucks for all the premium and extended podcast archives and another $9 monthly, its well produced but some of the guest arenet great so thats why the premium episodes shine.
- Stuff You Should Know: Podcast about stuff you should know, want to know about cockroaches? they have an episode for that. Fun and informative
- The Morning Stream: A pretty standard morning show podcast, 5 days a week so its what i have if i ever run out of the others. Great personalities and good segments. Same dudes that do Filmsack as well.
